Transferring a Character
In Evolving Species ARPG groups (like Grimsby Grove), a “Transfer” is a character that a player can import from outside of the ARPG. If you want to transfer a character into the setting of Grimsby Grove, you’ve come to the right page! Before reading this page, please be sure you’re familiar with:
Every member of Grimsby Grove gets two transfer slots for free when they join. To obtain more transfer slots, you can use pinecones earned from prompts and events to buy a slot or visit our store and purchase one via Paypal. To check your Transfer slots, simply check the Bank.
You cannot trade the two starter Transfer Slots that come with your membership to the group.

Strangers in a Strange Land
A mysterious force has brought your Folk to Grimsby Grove from a world beyond. How much they remember, what version of their story they are from, and how long they’ve been in the Grove are all up to you - the only common thread for ALL TRANSFERS is that they are not natively of this setting (Grimsby Grove).

For example:
- One of your Transfers can be an adult who was brought to the Den decades ago when they were still a kit, their parentage unknown, and have grown up in the Tree just like their peers.
- One of your Transfers can be a teenage kit that appeared in the Great Tree, with their memories intact, sundered from a life they can’t go back to.
- Yet another can be an adult found lost in the wilds beyond the Grove, unsure of who they are or where they came from.

Who Can Cross the Veil?
We accept the following types of characters as transfers into Grimsby Grove:
|
The following is the minimum requirements for proof of ownership of the character:
- The character has a reference or an image that has been posted to an account you own for 3 or more months (or an account that recognizes you as owner of the design). It should have a visible date on it, and must be available for public viewing in order for staff to confirm.
- If the character in question is a transferred design in a previous group that didn’t require proof of ownership upon transferring in. We will need secondary proof of ownership outside of that previous group in order to make sure that the original pre-transfer is truly yours.
The Journey’s Toll
There are limits as to what your Transfer can carry over from their prior forms. In lore, their bodies are created anew from raw ether - the transformation may not be exactly like their original form.
For each transfer, you have:
- An Unlimited amount of Kit upgrades, including Kit Injury upgrades. Any small injuries will automatically transfer to Kit Injury upgrades.
- All upgrades must look similar for both the design being transferred and the transfer Folk. Colors, placements can be changed and moved around during application.
- Up to 7: Adult, Subspecies, Warlock or Blight/Adult Injury upgrades with a few limitations-
- OOAK and Event upgrades cannot transfer, only Warlock upgrades can, the maximum is the limit for all non-Warlock subspecies, four(4).
- Warlock, Subspecies and Vocation upgrades must also have proof that the equivalent-in-appearance upgrade that was legal in the source group. (An approval comment on the upgrade application or an accepted piece of art with the upgrades is fine)
- Phylakardia related injury upgrades are not available for transfers.
- OOAK and Event upgrades cannot transfer, only Warlock upgrades can, the maximum is the limit for all non-Warlock subspecies, four(4).
- The eye color of their prior incarnation (with the exception of Heterochromia unless it follows the canon character transfer rule)
- Any personal OCs and personal NPCs from ARPGs cannot transfer with any Extraordinary upgrades or be transferred in as a subspecies.
You will be responsible for choosing and documenting your transfer’s design and upgrades on their transfer application!
This means that they don’t have to exactly match each upgrade or colors/placements that they had in their ownership proof, but they must look similar to the design on the application- any upgrades you choose not to bring over will default back to the subspecies of Folk they are becoming.
- The design on the application must be the design you wish to transfer to Grimsby Grove without any additions to the Folk verison. This means that all upgrades and colors you plan on having on the transferred Folk must be present on the design used for the application and the transferred design.
- Any changes you wish to make to the design does not need to be official in previous groups and does not need to be posted separately before the application, but can not be done during the application process. The changed design must be on the application if you plan on changing it from the design seen in the proof of ownership image.
Not all upgrades that are present on the original design have to be present on the Folk design. If upgrades are removed they default back to the standard Folk traits. However, no upgrades can be added to the Folk design that aren't on the original design. |
If upgrades present on the original design do not have an exact match in Grimsby Grove, you can pick another upgrade that is in the same category! (Horns must transfer to horns, wings to wings, and so on.) Extraordinary upgrades are the exception to this. The previous design's upgrade must closely resemble the extraordinary upgrade you want to transfer. |
If upgrades present on the original design do have an exact match in Grimsby Grove, the Folk image must have the matching upgrade OR you can downgrade to a kit version if applicable to save upgrade slots. You cannot change to a different upgrade unless you also update the original design on the application. |
There are special rules that transfers must adhere to as well:
Human-to-Folk transfers must use the standard Folk MYO palettes (or, if there’s an event going on, an Event MYO palette). They can have Luxury Hair, Pupils, Thumbs and Eyebrow Switcher. They must have no other upgrades unless their original form had equivalent upgrades (For example: Wings or Simple Stripes) |
Blights and Blight upgrades are openly available for transfers. Any stage may be used without proof and any previous stage does not need to applied. The Blight can be cured or uncured for stages 1 and 2 while Stage 3, which will always remain uncured. |
This only applies to upgrades that are Phylakardia color upon application but allow color change. (ex. Gills, Traitors flight, etc)
Upon transferring a Kit, all upgrades that require to be Phylakardia Color must match the Kit's Phylakardia on Application. You can then Pop'N'Swap the colors after approval, having met Pop'N'Swaps requirments first.
Upon transferring an Adult, the same said upgrades can be any color.

Lost to the Ether
Unfortunately, not everything about your transfer will stay from your old group.

Something New, Something Different
The following is the description template you will need to transfer your character: - Proof of Ownership: Please link either the: oldest image you have of the character, the character's application, you acquiring that character or a resource account which recognizes you as the owner of the design in order to verify that you’ve owned the design for over 3 months. - Name: This name should be the same name listed in your application! - Gender: This is the gender of your Folk, not the biosex of the Folk! All Folk have the same sex. - Creation: This is how your transfer was made! You must list either: “Free Traveler's Token” if it’s a transfer using your 2 free slots, “Paid Traveler's Token” if it’s a normal transfer with a slot you’ve purchased, or “Event Traveler's Token” if it’s a special transfer slot that you’ve won that has special rules attached to it. - Subspecies: This is the subspecies of your transfer! Will almost always be a Witch. - Life Stage: Is your Traveler a kit or an adult? - ID #: This is your transfer’s ID! This will be provided for you upon approval, and make sure you keep it safe as it's used for all group mechanics! - List of Upgrades: Here you list out the upgrades you are applying to your transfer! You must list out all of them in a separate list like below. > Hatched: These are the mandatory upgrades your subspecies will have, the only exception is if someone else overrides their location but some cannot be overridden. These will be listed on both the Upgrade page and each Subspecies page. > Kit: List your kit upgrades here, you have an unlimited amount of them. > Others: List the 7 upgrades that you will be transferring in here. If one of the upgrades listed has an extraordinary upgrade, you must link proof that you’ve earned it through the ARPG. Other Questions
Q: How many characters can I transfer into the group for free?
A: 2, each member and non-member gets 2 free transfers. Anything more than 2 will need to be purchased from our shop! Q: Can my first character in Grimsby Grove be a transfer? A: Yes! Q: Do I have to stop using the character elsewhere if I transfer them to Grimsby Grove? A: No you don’t. It’s your character, we do not have that authority for you to stop using your characters in other places nor wish to. You’re free to do whatever you like - you just can’t transfer the same character into Grimsby Grove multiple times. Q: What happens if the character I want to transfer has an upgrade that doesn’t exist in the group? A: You can request the upgrade in our Upgrade Suggestions thread, or find the closest approximate upgrade from our existing catalog. Q: Can my copyrighted media ARPG character (for example, a Pokémon) be transferred in? A: Sure, why not? Q: Will the Staff choose my character’s upgrades? A: No, you pick and choose which upgrades you want to transfer. We encourage you to pick the upgrades that look similar to the character you are transferring on your own. We might be able to help you pick if you post in #Transfer Legality Help in our Discord server if you need assistance. Q: Can I tweak the colors a little bit on my transfer? A: Sure, just make sure the verison with the tweaked colors is what you use for your transfer. Q: Are slight changes, including switching placements and decluttering a design, allowed? A: Yes, you may simplify your transfer! Q: Can we transfer a character from another group that is officially dead in that group? A: Sure! They’ll be a living Folk when they arrive. |
Q: What if we donated a character in another group?
A: If you’ve given the design up to a group or other entity, you have given up ownership of the design and can no longer transfer it. :( Q: Can we use an older design for a character, or does it have to be the most recent one? A: We only look at the design you present for transferring. You can pick between an older design, a recent one or an edited verison of the design you wish to use. It just has to be on the application you submit. Q: If I want to transfer a character, but it has an important upgrade that doesn't have something similar in gg (ears or tail for example), but they had another trait before that does exist, can we choose that instead? A: Yes you can, make sure you transfer the version of the character that has the upgrades you wanted! Q: If the character we want to transfer has scars that are a big part of the design/design wise very important to us, but we don't feel they would make much sense in a highly regenerative species, can we replace them with markings that looks similar (stripes, stars, spots for slashes or punctures for example) or simply placements (for bigger covering scars like larger burns)? A: Sure! Just keep in mind the 7 Adult Upgrade limit. Q: Do I need an open myo slot for a transfer? A: No! Transfers use different slots. These slots are labeled as "Traveler's Token" which each member and non-member has 2 free of to use, and anymore must be purchased using paypal or group currency. Q: Can I only make a transfer when the group has an opening? A: No, they can be made at any time. Q: Can transfers be chosen to become Warlocks later on? A: Only in certain events. Q: My transfer was able to fly before; can they still do that here? A: No! But they can try??? |
